- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources approved Franconia Minerals LLC’s plan to drill up to 19 sites in St. Louis County, about five miles east of Babbitt, through March 31, 2027. Franconia will follow guidelines—using best practices and posted sites—to protect wetlands. BusinessNorth
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Portman Youth Hockey Association hosted its fourth annual Great Skate event to kick off the outdoor hockey season and raise funds for equipment and facilities; puck drop for the eight teams will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Portman Community Center. WDIO
- ➤ Hermantown started a new era for youth hockey with the official opening of Northstar Ford Arena and a ribbon cutting today. All 41 local teams will use the enhanced facility for weekend games, including a girls match at noon and a boys varsity game at 2 p.m. WDIO
