COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chester Bowl received a $9,500 donation from Loll Designs to fund ski chalet renovations scheduled to begin in April, and the project is expected to be completed by next winter (the donation is part of ongoing fundraising efforts).  WDIO
  • MLK Day events are scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 18 and Monday, Jan. 19, with a worship service at First United Methodist Church, a community breakfast with keynote speakers, and a weather-adjusted march from the DECC lobby through the skywalk — all free for Duluth residents.  BusinessNorth
  • About 650 Minnesota Energy Resources customers in Willow River, Sturgeon Lake and Finlayson have been without natural gas since pipeline damage on Friday. The utility is using supply trucks and crews plan to restore temporary service overnight and into Saturday morning — full restoration may take several days.  WDIO

  • Dan Horoshak, a fifth-generation Ranger and USW Local 6860 member, is launching his campaign for Minnesota State Representative in District 7B. He promises to boost mining, expand job training, support small businesses, and improve healthcare on the Iron Range.  WDIO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sprint Medic, a new pilot program to boost emergency response in rural northern St. Louis County, will launch Monday, Jan. 19. Virginia Fire Department paramedics will drive SUVs with advanced life support tools and work weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. under state funding.  WDIO
