GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local coalition members led by Duluth’s Ben Karlgraard voiced strong opposition to a House bill that would reverse a 20-year mining ban near the Boundary Waters, urging residents to call senators as the bill heads to the Senate & job benefits are touted by proponents.  WDIO
  • The Minnesota Housing Board approved $41.75 million to preserve affordable rentals in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota on Jan. 22. In Duluth, Faith Haven and S-Elect Apartments received over $15 million to help keep rents stable for 15 to 30 years.  WDIO
  • Tax season is underway as Duluth parents can claim an increased child tax credit of $2,200 per child (a $200 raise from last year) if children under 17 meet residency and support rules; income limits are $400,000 for married couples and $200,000 for singles.  KSTP
