EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two robotics teams from Many Rivers Montessori advanced to the state championship and will compete in the High Tech Kids FIRST LEGO League Challenge in the Twin Cities on Sunday, Feb. 15 — they constructed sifting devices and received input from UMD and the Minnesota science museum. WDIO
- ➤ Pike Lake Elementary in Proctor was recognized this week by the Minnesota Department of Education (commissioner Willie Jett noted it is one of eight top-performing schools for academic achievement ahead of the 2025 National Blue Ribbon Schools program ending) for outstanding performance. WDIO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A state report submitted on Jan. 15 showed Minnesota recorded a drop in traffic deaths from 475 in 2024 to 370 in 2025. The report credits declines in impaired, distracted, speeding & unbelted driving for this improvement. WDIO
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Duluth natives Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse advanced to the Olympic mixed doubles curling final after defeating Italy in the semi-finals on Monday, and they will face Swedish siblings Isabella and Rasmus Wrana later. WDIO
- ➤ Minnesota natives Boye Mafe (Golden Valley), Nick Kallerup (Wayzata) and Ty Okada (Woodbury) helped the Seattle Seahawks win Super Bowl 60 over the New England Patriots 29 to 13 on Sunday, Feb. 8; Mafe and Kallerup, former Gophers, joined others in celebrating the big win. KSTP
