  • North Shore residents are clearing heavy snow after a major blizzard that left four-foot drifts at Split Rock Lighthouse (closed today) and nearly 20 inches in Silver Bay. Locals look forward to winter sports once cleanup is complete.  WDIO

  • Louisiana-Pacific (operating plants in Two Harbors, Hayward and Tomahawk) reported a Q4 2025 net loss of $8 million while its annual net income of $146 million declined by $275 million, and the firm announced that it will pay a $0.30 quarterly cash dividend in Q1.  BusinessNorth

  • Entrepreneur Rob West finds that most older business owners in the Northland have no exit strategy, putting hundreds of local jobs at risk when they retire. FINANCE NEWS

  • A new tax deduction option has expanded state and local tax limits from $10,000 to $40,000 for Minnesotans. CPA Steven Warren (of Schrecter Dokken Kanter) said both itemizers and standard deduction filers may benefit as the option is available now.  KSTP

SPORTS NEWS

  • In 2018, the U.S. men's curling team (featuring athletes with Northland ties) won gold against Sweden, boosting local pride. Supporters remembered the victory as a defining moment for Duluth's curling community.  WDIO
  • Team USA women’s curling reached the semifinals with a 7-6 win in an extra end over Switzerland on Thursday — the first medal round appearance since 2002. Duluthian Cory Thiesse, a silver medalist in mixed doubles, will face the Swiss again today in the medal round.  WDIO
