COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students at Northern Lights Elementary celebrated a record-breaking food drive by gathering 2,100 items for the Faith United Methodist Church food pantry, continuing a 15-year tradition led by teacher Jess Brozic.  WDIO
  • The Duluth 1200 Fund is accepting applications for its Historic Fund loan program through May 18, offering low to zero interest loans and partial forgiveness to revitalize downtown historic buildings. Funding notifications will come in July and past winners include Heirloom Properties, the Building for Women and Hucklebeary.  BusinessNorth
  • Northwood Children's Services will host a free prom dress shopping event today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Merritt Creek Academy (and a Saturday session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), offering hundreds of dresses and accepting ongoing donations.  WDIO

  • Ursa Minor Brewing will open Bean and Bear Bagels this spring at its north end facility on 26th Ave. W, offering grab-and-go bagels, sandwiches, and specialty coffee to fill a local need for quality fast-food options.  Perfect Duluth Day

  • Chisholm students explored their new elementary school during a ribbon cutting and soft opening that featured guided tours and legacy video recordings (a nod to the district's 100-year history), and an official grand opening is planned for August during the home volleyball game.  WDIO

  • Age Well Arrowhead is a nonprofit that is helping seniors live how they choose by expanding services to include homemaker help, transportation, caregiver support, and grocery shopping. Tanya assists patients like Bob, who has a broken foot, + Lil, who is recovering from back surgery.  WDIO
