- ➤ Starting Monday, March 23, the 3rd Annual Cheerio Challenge runs through March 28 to collect Cheerios and other non-perishables for CHUM, Damiano Center, Duluth Union Gospel Mission and Salvation Army. Drop off is available at Duluth Labor Temple, Peace Church in the Hillside and Our Savior’s Church in West Duluth. WDIO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Principal Nathan Glockle of the Area Learning Center was named Outstanding Teacher of Northland for his kind and caring leadership at Duluth. The award includes a $500 donation to support students and teachers as they build a warm, welcoming school community. WDIO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Road construction on West Superior Street will start late May through early July on 27th Avenue West and Michigan Street; later work will update 18th Avenue West, 24th Avenue West and Carlton Street by November as the city addresses drainage and pavement issues with $32 million in grant funding — city officials said. - ➤ Aspirus Health announced Thursday that Dr. Nick Van Deelen retired as senior vice president of the Minnesota Market after years of service to local communities. Jeff Wicklander is taking on extra responsibilities during a transition while a national search for a permanent successor is underway. WDIO
