BUSINESS NEWS

  • After closing for winter, Gordy's Hi-Hat reopens its doors for its 67th season at 10 a.m. today at 415 Sunnyside Drive, with the first 67 customers receiving a free root beer float.  WDIO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crews began work this month to protect Split Rock Lighthouse by installing a new system that monitors moisture levels and replacing damaged masonry. Visitors can join hard hat tours during regular hours until work is finished in late June.  KSTP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 25, Superior's Northwood Tech hosted a welding competition for over 50 students from Northwood, Lake Superior, Central Lakes and Minnesota North colleges to test skills in stick, MIG and gas cutting. Reece Boser, Devon Orzco and Jenoah Mckay were recognized for their performance.  WDIO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Duluth is asking for comments on its Alternative Urban Areawide Review to guide downtown development and manage environmental impacts over 354 acres, including the Essentia Health campus. Residents may review the draft online or in person at City Hall (411 West First, Room 160) until April 23.  WDIO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Consumer Reports warns Duluth drivers that rodents may be damaging cars by chewing wiring, leaving droppings, and building nests. The report advises cleaning and disinfecting affected areas (avoid vacuuming rodent droppings) and consulting a mechanic if wiring is compromised.  KSTP

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mandy Pearson, who led UMD women's basketball for 11 seasons and reached 100 wins faster than any coach, was named head coach at St. Thomas on Wednesday and will be formally introduced at a press conference today on campus.  KSTP
