BUSINESS NEWS

  • Auntie Anne's opened its first Duluth location this week at Miller Hill Mall food court, replacing the former Pretzel Maker. General Manager Keityn Gould said the busy opening has gone smoother than expected and the franchise brings fresh soft pretzels to the community.  WDIO
  • Cirrus Aircraft Ltd. delivered 691 SR Series aircraft and 106 Vision Jets in 2025, according to the GAMA report. The company celebrated 11,000 total SR Series deliveries and unveiled its new SR Series G7+ with Safe Return Emergency Autoland that set new milestones in personal aviation.  BusinessNorth
  • Blacklist Brewing Co. will host a celebration on April 16 where tickets include a pour of Hoops No. 15 Pale Ale + a six-pack and merch following a Thursday partnership announcement with the closed Hoops taproom. The event takes place at 206 E Superior St. in Duluth’s HART district.  WDIO
  • Burrito Union will be sold to Fernando Duran and become Burrito Union Tequila Bar when the sale closes on April 13. Current owners Rod Raymond and Marcy Wojick plan to focus on other local venues while preserving the brand’s spirit — promising a refined tequila focus for guests.  WDIO
  • Pulsar Helium Inc. has completed its seven successful appraisal wells near Babbitt in northeastern Minnesota to finish the exploratory drilling phase — flow testing is set to begin in March or early April as the company defines the scale of what may be the state’s first commercial helium operation on private land.  BusinessNorth

  • Dr. Brenda Kelly was named president of the College of St. Scholastica on March 26, coming from Gustavus Adolphus College where she served as Provost and Dean. She will succeed Dr. Barbara McDonald, whose retirement was announced in May, and lead the college into its next chapter.  BusinessNorth

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota DNR says 2 OHV-specific campsites with electric service will open on June 12 at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park. A new trail connection to Soudan will open in fall (2026) to give riders direct access to local trails.  WDIO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Louis County will host two listening sessions to gather ideas on using opioid remediation funds for criminal justice support. The sessions are Tuesday, Apr. 14 in Virginia and Thursday, Apr. 16 in Duluth at Government Services Centers, and virtual participation is also available.  BusinessNorth
  • Duluth city leaders are conducting a comprehensive land use study through July to shape the future of the 270-acre Lester Park Golf Course for housing, recreation, and public green space. The study invites public feedback via recent open houses and an online survey (input is encouraged).  WDIO

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Health updated fish consumption guidelines after testing nearly 500 samples from state waters & found elevated mercury levels in Northeast Minnesota and PFAS in the Vermillion River. The new limits advise vulnerable groups to reduce servings of walleye and northern pike.  WDIO
