- ➤ On Friday, the Lee A. Tregurtha freighter became trapped in ice near eastern Duluth as it headed to Marquette and returned to port after the Coast Guard Cutter Spar assisted. Local officials said shipping challenges persist as ice continues to affect operations this season. WDIO

- ➤ Today, Duluth Public Schools announced that Denfeld High School’s graduation rate improved by 7.85%, with significant gains for free/reduced meal, homeless, American Indian, and multi-race students (reflecting focused district support) as Minnesota’s class of 2025 set a record 84.9% rate statewide. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Acadia (13-year-old female peregrine) on the DNR FalconCam has a new mate, a 4-year-old that fled Minneapolis City Hall in 2022. The pair has not laid eggs yet, but frequent mating behavior suggests eggs could be laid as soon as next week, according to the DNR. KSTP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Duluth snowplow operators are clearing snow and ice from P1 and P2 roadways today — some remain on duty for emergency vehicles until 2 a.m., while residents are urged to follow Sunday alternate side parking rules from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. WDIO
- ➤ The Coast Guard is working to free the motor vessel Lee from ice near Duluth's shoreline as part of its Operation Taconite efforts — the call came at 12:40 p.m. Friday and no injuries were reported. The vessel is on its first season voyage, heading to Marquette for iron ore. WDIO
