- ➤ In March, customers from Duluth, Cloquet, and Two Harbors made over 30,000 small donations that raised (23,853.16 dollars) for Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity. The funds will help build a new home in the Smithville neighborhood (near Morgan Park) for people in need. WDIO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heather and Randy Bacchus from the nonprofit Be Extraordinary, Be You held a forum at Lincoln Park Middle School on April 9 to teach youth about the dangers of strong cannabis—products can now have 23% to 90% THC compared with 1% to 3% in the past—after they lost their son to cannabis-induced psychosis and suicide. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St. Louis County Auditor finished a public test of the voting machines on April 9 while county staff and judges made sure they worked correctly. The test came ahead of the special election on May 13 for (Unorganized Township 63-17) where residents will vote on becoming an organized township. WDIO
- ➤ Bike MN and Vibrant Streets Duluth launched a pilot program that will let employees from five local businesses use 36 e-bikes for seven months—Duluth Folk School will assemble the bikes on April 21 and data from the program will help shape future transportation policies funded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. - ➤ Duluth City Council President Terese Tomanek announced Wednesday she is running for reelection and highlighted her work securing funds for affordable housing, remodeling the Damiano Center and replacing lead in older buildings. She said her goal is to keep Duluth safe and help children thrive — a promise she will continue to work on if reelected. WDIO
