- ➤ Chester Bowl and Duluth City are moving ahead with the Thom Storm Chalet reconstruction — expanding the 3,330 sqft building into a 5,390 sqft facility with improved accessibility. A ceremonial start occurred Monday, and construction will continue through summer while some programs temporarily relocate. WDIO
- ➤ FOX 21 Local News named Duluth native Xavier Walt new morning anchor, who will co-anchor weekday newscasts from 7 to 9 a.m. He was promoted after years as a production assistant and is set to deliver local news to the community. BusinessNorth
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Hermantown officials heard a UMD study on extending water and sewer to create new development sites in southwest Hermantown during the April 20 meeting. The study analyzed five scenarios (heavy equipment manufacturing, distribution, and wood production) but did not include a data center amid public interest. WDIO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Duluth will open five road sand collection sites on April 27 at Wheeler Field, Piedmont Community Center, Duluth Heights Community Center, Chester Park, and Portman Park for three weeks. Residents can drop off winter sand, salt and debris to clean waterways (illegal dumping will be monitored). WDIO
- ➤ The City of Duluth will conduct controlled burns at park sites this spring to manage invasive plants and support native species at Piedmont Park, Chambers Grove Park, and Hartley Park's oak stand—a measure that also promotes pollinator habitats and respects tribal practices. - ➤ The Duluth Airport Authority will host an air traffic control tower open house on April 29 at Duluth International Airport (4701 Grinden Drive) from 6 to 7 p.m. A brief presentation at 6:15 p.m. will detail the project, which is set to finish in 2028 and enhance airfield safety. BusinessNorth
