- ➤ The Iron Ore Alliance named former State Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk the recipient of its fourth annual Hard Rock Miners award for his nearly 30 years of support for Minnesota’s taconite industry & mining community. - ➤ A construction project to improve the lakeshore near the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center will begin early May with Northern Interstate Construction building a $3.15M concrete tee-wall armored by a stone revetment to reduce weather damage—this system will upgrade 200 feet of the pedestrian walkway and connect the Lake Walk to the Ship Canal North Pier.
