CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Duluth and St. Louis County police halted work on child abuse cases after judges ruled that Minnesota officers lack the authority to search digital devices in a Wisconsin lab—officials said this action has stalled progress on at least 90 active cases and spurred efforts to find legal solutions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ AmeriCorps is seeking 700 tutors for math and reading to help Minnesota students this fall, and Duluth needs 16 tutors. Tutors work 25 to 35 hours weekly and earn $17 per hour with a $5,176 education award (no teaching experience is needed). WDIO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At its April 28 meeting, Duluth City Council heard a presentation from a citizen group led by Tim Meyer that examined three options for the shuttered Lester Park Golf Course — one to redevelop the land with a hotel, shops and housing, another to keep it as a public park with a simplified course, and a third to reopen it through a single non-profit sharing equipment with Enger Park Golf Course. - ➤ MnDOT has advanced the Twin Ports Interchange Project by installing 651 beams and completing all substructures while work nearly finishes on Interstate 35 and heavy construction continues on Highway 53. Michigan Street is closed today and Superior Street will be closed May 1st to 13th as well as 19th and 20th Avenues from May 5th to 15th—after which 21st Avenue West will be rebuilt over three weeks.
