- ➤ AMSOIL Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation will host Meet the Pack (a free, family-friendly event) on Tuesday, May 5, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hibbing Memorial Building in Hibbing, where a dozen K-9 teams will demonstrate their skills to support local K-9 programs. WDIO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Work began on April 30 at Iron Workers Local 512's Hermantown training facility as the union starts a union-funded expansion to nearly double shop space for its growing number of apprentices. WDIO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Louis County will plant 350,000 pine seedlings across 500 acres to restore forests damaged by last year's wildfires. Work crews will begin planting in northeastern Minnesota in the next several days. WDIO
- ➤ Boaters in Duluth are urged to clean, drain and dry boats at water access points to prevent aquatic invasive species from spreading. Doug Jensen from the DNR said two cleaning stations (at Pike Lake and Boy Scout Landing) will bolster prevention efforts this fishing season. WDIO
- ➤ Researchers with the University of Minnesota’s Voyageurs Wolf Project captured the first video in 100 years showing cougars reproducing, recording a female with three kittens at a kill south of Voyageurs National Park. Officials say this evidence raises questions about a self-sustaining population & survival remains uncertain. WDIO
