COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members gathered at Duluth City Hall Tuesday to support MMIWR (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives) by wearing red and sharing stories, and Enger Tower was lit red Tuesday night to honor those affected by violence.  WDIO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The MDE found the Duluth Area Learning Center was out of compliance after an eight-month review that uncovered issues with online instruction—scheduling and record keeping. Duluth Public Schools will suspend several programs on June 30 as it submits plans to restore ALC status.  WDIO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hermantown council delayed a vote on an $80 million tax incentive for a Google data center after community members debated benefits and concerns over job growth, pollution, declining property values & increased power needs, and no vote date has been set.  WDIO
  • Superior City Council reviewed a resolution introduced by Councilor Robert Hering that urges state officials to maintain fish hatchery operations after the closure of the Brule Fish Hatchery due to budget constraints; approval would send the measure to state leaders, amid concerns for local tourism & fishing and the regional economy.  WDIO
