The Camp House Fire burned 12,000 acres and evacuation orders remain active while the Jenkins Creek Fire, now 6,800 acres and threatening a growing area, led to an evacuation for Skibo; the Three Lakes Fire is at 1,300 acres with lifted orders—authorities said the Forest Service will add more air support today and warned that crossing road closures is illegal.

On May 12th, Duluth City Council voted 7—1 to rezone a Woodland neighborhood site for a housing development that will include two buildings with 60 condominiums each; Councilman Arik Forsman said the council voted under current code after receiving many emails from residents about concerns over crowding and impacts on a nearby stream. The rezoning now allows the project to move forward.

Duluth began several road projects Monday that are closing and diverting traffic on N Lake, Skyline, Eklund, and Junction Avenues.

Crews will replace lead pipes on N Lake Ave through Friday while Skyline Parkway is switched to one-way until May 12 — repairs on Eklund and Junction Avenues will continue through the fall with planned work pauses later in the season.

The state's Department of Commerce has urged homeowners and renters to check their insurance and create a home inventory as wildfire risks increase in spring.

Officials also recommended removing yard debris and maintaining a defensible zone around homes—steps designed to reduce damage if a fire occurs.

During Nurse Appreciation Week, Aspirus St. Luke's spotlighted nurse Molly Hastings—who has served as both a nurse assistant and a nurse for two years after working as an EMT and dispatcher—for her dedication to patient comfort.

Hastings is known for easing stressful moments by offering attentive care and even sharing a light joke when needed.
