- ➤ Locals and tourists now enjoy the reopened Lakewalk in Canal Park after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers made safety improvements during a yearlong closure. The $3 million project added wheelchair ramps and landscaping — the Maritime Center’s grassy area remains closed for six to eight weeks. WDIO
- ➤ The Magic Smelt Puppet Troupe held its 13th annual parade in Canal Park today, featuring costumed performers, stilt walkers, and a musical procession that moved to Zeitgeist where a smelt-fry dinner concluded the festivities. WDIO

- ➤ On Friday, May 15, a firefighting plane was hit by a bullet after scooping water at Kjostad Lake while battling a wildfire in Portage Township; it landed safely with no injuries and the sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call 911 and reference case number 26066433. WDIO

- ➤ Firefighters are containing the Stewart Trail, Gilbert and Flanders fires today amid dry, windy conditions that boost the flames+ state DNR and emergency teams are monitoring lingering heat to prevent flare-ups. WDIO
