The GND Rec Center held a ribbon cutting on Monday, June 1 to mark the opening of its new playground in Gary New Duluth, a project months in the making.

The facility now gives kids a safe space to play + allows parents to watch over them during nearby events.

On June 2, Harbor Theater in Two Harbors hosted a wildfire relief fundraiser featuring a food truck + bar + live music to raise funds for wildfire victims after the Stewart Trail Fire destroyed several homes in May; proceeds went to Head of the Lakes United Way.

The active Birch Bay Fire has burned 30 acres northwest of the North Arm of Burntside Lake while firefighters work to contain the blaze amid hot temperatures and low humidity, and authorities advise locals to avoid the North Arm Road area.
