On Saturday, hundreds of hikers and runners celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Superior Hiking Trail — participating in a community hike along its 42-mile Duluth section on National Trails Day.

The 300-mile trail stretches from the Wisconsin — Minnesota border to Canada.

Duluth neighbors gathered at Central Hillside Community Park on June 2 to remember victims of gun violence and promote safe firearm storage during Gun Violence Awareness Month (with several community groups and local police participating).

A fire consumed a vacant cabin and several outbuildings Saturday afternoon on the 3600 block of Kennedy Road in Beatty Township; emergency crews (Cook and Buyck Fire Departments, Minnesota DNR, and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office) responded while the cause remains under investigation.

Two wildfires were reported in the BWCAW on Saturday; one is near Lac La Croix (22 miles east of Crane Lake) and the other is east of Loon Lake in the LaCroix Ranger District, with firefighting teams assessing suppression options and urging the public to steer clear for safety.

Officials from the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management held a listening session at Lake Superior College where Duluthians learned about CBD and the Cannabis Omnibus Bill—meant to support small businesses and patients—and more sessions will follow this summer and fall, with a CanGrow application deadline extended to July 13.
