  • The GND Rec Center hosted its first skate jam on June 7 at Gary New Duluth where skaters of all ages gathered for live music, a food truck, and prize giveaways — the event marked the park’s debut since opening last fall. Local families and enthusiasts showed strong support as they enjoyed the break-in celebration for the new facility.  WDIO

  • A billion-dollar plan to rebuild the Blatnik Bridge is forcing five Superior businesses to move for a new Superior Interchange. Superior-Lidgerwood-Mundy will relocate to a new 68,000 sq ft building at 3301 Winter Ave early 2026—its 32 employees will move along—while Allstate Peterbilt Group, Halvor Lines, Twin Ports Testing and Great Lakes Electrical face similar moves, and Kari Toyota is shifting to a long-planned 22,000 sq ft site in Billings Park.  BusinessNorth

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Thunderstorms and extra showers will help slow flames near both the Horse River and Jenkins Creek wildfires this weekend. The Horse River Fire is 75% contained and crews will soon remove equipment—while teams build safety lines at Jenkins Creek.  WDIO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Duluth hosted its first 'Going Bananas Run' in Lincoln Park with over 400 runners racing two miles to help fund Project Joy—an effort to tackle child hunger. Organizer Andrew Weisz said the event featured fun costumes, free ice cream, and even a gorilla to add to the excitement.  WDIO
