The Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce has named Jim Roche interim president after former president Matt Baumgartner left the organization.
Roche, a Minneapolis native who lived in Duluth for seven years, brings decades of leadership experience from roles in Maine — New Hampshire — and Upstate New York.
🎭 Culture
On Friday, tattoo enthusiasts filled the DECC for the first day of the Great North Tattoo Festival, featuring over 140 artists and 175 vendors.
The event offers walk-ups for fresh ink and runs Friday 1PM-10PM, Saturday 11AM-10PM, and Sunday 11AM-7PM.
🎓 Education
New Duluth medical students received their white coats and recited the Hippocratic Oath Friday morning at the University of Minnesota, marking the start of their patient care journey (class of 2029).
Most students are local and plan to address rural healthcare needs.
🏛️ Government
A two-year project to rebuild nearly half a mile of 40th Ave West will start Monday, Aug.
24 and continue through October. The road will close to all traffic — drivers must follow detour signs redirecting them via Morris Thomas, Stebner, Getchell, Highland, 57th Ave West and Grand Ave.

Minnesota Wild single-game tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Friday—featuring themed nights like SpongeBob Night, Star Wars Night and Educator Appreciation Night—as the team gears up for its home opener against the Boston Bruins on Oct.
