EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Brett Spigarelli has been named the new Endowed Taconite Chair at the University of Minnesota’s Natural Resources Research Institute, replacing retired Rod Johnson. He will lead a research program aimed at boosting Minnesota’s iron ore industry—building partnerships with government, industry and academia to drive innovation.  BusinessNorth

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce has scheduled two meetings to get input on the Highway 61 redesign. A listening session for business owners is set for Sept. 3 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.—and a review session with state and local leaders will follow on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. to address community concerns.  BusinessNorth

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Minnesota Board of Animal Health confirmed that horses have tested positive for West Nile Virus—five have died and cases were first reported in Kittson on July 28 with additional cases in Fillmore, Lincoln, Wadena, Mille Lacs, and Wabasha counties. The board urges horse owners to vaccinate their animals to help prevent the spread of the virus.  KSTP

  • Women Gonna Lift Pop-Up Lifting Event

    Join us for a FREE women's lifting event hosted at Northland Fitness in Lincoln Park. Suggested donation of $20 to Duluth Center For Women and Children (more info on this cause and how to donate in the sign up link!). This event is perfect for novice AND experienced lifters who want to have some fun lifting while raising money for a local cause! We are planning to back squat together for his pop-up. If you are a novice lifter there will be a physical therapist and personal trainer present to help you know exactly what to do! This is also an awesome opportunity to tour Northland Fitness and try out a new gym for free!
