  • Project Joy finished packing JoyBags for families facing food insecurity before the school year—volunteers including students from the College of St. Scholastica helped pack up to 370 food bags per week working with the Union Gospel Mission.  WDIO
  • Animal Allies Humane Society held a ribbon cutting and summer open house on Thursday where they reopened their newly refinished Humane Education Center after severe January flood damage — the facility remained closed for five months amid revenue loss.  WDIO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mayors Jim Paine, Roger Reinert, and Lew Conner spoke at the Duluth Superior Pride reception on August 28th to unite the community and honor local history—while festivities today and on Sunday the 31st offer live music and local celebrations drawing people from the Twin Ports.  WDIO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local mental health experts and child psychiatrists in Hermantown say parents and teachers should watch for signs of trauma such as anger and isolation in students as schools use a three-tier support system — starting with classroom lessons and small group counseling — to help children cope. They stress that open conversations and available resources like 988 can support kids as they work through tough times.  WDIO

  • Women Gonna Lift Pop-Up Lifting Event

    Join us for a FREE women's lifting event hosted at Northland Fitness in Lincoln Park. Suggested donation of $20 to Duluth Center For Women and Children (more info on this cause and how to donate in the sign up link!). This event is perfect for novice AND experienced lifters who want to have some fun lifting while raising money for a local cause! We are planning to back squat together for his pop-up. If you are a novice lifter there will be a physical therapist and personal trainer present to help you know exactly what to do! This is also an awesome opportunity to tour Northland Fitness and try out a new gym for free!
