COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On September 20th, over 400 Duluth residents walked along the DECC lakewalk to Fitger’s and back in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s despite poor weather. The event—organized by the Alzheimer’s Association—aimed to raise $185,000 to help fund care, research and support services. WDIO
- ➤ Duluth public libraries may face staffing and hours cuts if the city’s budget shortfall is not fixed—library officials say many residents are urging council members to protect funding as the 2026 budget is planned. Library supporters stress that keeping library hours steady is key to maintaining access to books and programs. WDIO
- ➤ Stan Nelson, believed to be Minnesota's oldest World War II veteran, is turning 105 on Monday and received a birthday salute from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He served in the Navy during D-Day and said he feels lucky to have good friends and family. KSTP

- ➤ Target's annual car seat trade-in event is underway at local stores through Oct. 4 to give customers a 20% discount on new car seats, strollers, or baby gear when they drop off an old seat and scan a code—coupons can be used twice by Oct. 18. KSTP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Duluth City Council met on September 22 to review a state grant for the Lake Superior Zoo and propose ordinances to raise funds for Lakewalk restoration as part of work on the 2026 budget—ordinances that will be read again at future meetings before final approval by December. WDIO

Women Gonna Lift Pop-Up Lifting Event
Join us for a FREE women's lifting event hosted at Northland Fitness in Lincoln Park. Suggested donation of $20 to Duluth Center For Women and Children (more info on this cause and how to donate in the sign up link!). This event is perfect for novice AND experienced lifters who want to have some fun lifting while raising money for a local cause! We are planning to back squat together for his pop-up. If you are a novice lifter there will be a physical therapist and personal trainer present to help you know exactly what to do! This is also an awesome opportunity to tour Northland Fitness and try out a new gym for free!
