Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 27th of September.
Good morning, Duluth.
🏘️ Community
Twin Ports residents gathered this weekend to honor missing Indigenous relatives and raise awareness as new billboards in Duluth and Scanlon call for community action.
Advocates stress that public support remains key in keeping these cases visible.
🎭 Culture
Volunteers have started setup for Bentleyville at Bayfront Festival Park despite a delay, moving 18 semi trailers and 19 containers for the 23rd season of the holiday attraction.
The 128 foot tree will be set up on Oct. 10 and Bentleyville will open on Nov. 21.
The HeART of Healing art exhibit opened Friday at Zeitgeist Center for Arts and Community in downtown Duluth (its proceeds benefit First Witness Child Advocacy Center) and will run through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests met local artists during an afternoon reception.
🏥 Health
Reinforcement 911, a Hermantown non-profit supporting veterans’ mental health, hosted its annual fundraiser Saturday at Aad Shrine Meeting and Event Center with a raffle, pulled-pork dinner, and therapy dog training led by VP Anthony Gist — who noted his retriever Boomer helped calm firefighters during last summer’s wildfires.
🏈 Sports
Drag racing returns to Garfield Avenue for the second year after a six-year hiatus.
Racers tuned up Saturday with a single-elimination tournament starting today at 10:00 a.m., and drivers + spectators must enter via West 1st Street because of road construction.
