COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The community held a smudge walk to mark 10 years since Sheila St. Claire disappeared in August 2015 & friends and family gathered to honor her while Duluth police continue to review new tips. Organizer Shawn Carr said a local reward remains available to encourage anyone with information to help bring her home.  WDIO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mesabi Trust started arbitration last week through the American Arbitration Association against Northshore Mining Company and Cleveland Cliffs Inc to seek damages and declaratory relief for the operator stopping operations from May 2022 to April 2023 and for underpaid royalties from 2023 to now. A previous award in 2024 gave the trust $59.8 million in damages + $11.3 million in pre-award interest.  BusinessNorth

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Developers are planning a $100 million project in Proctor that will include 350 homes, a big sports dome, a hotel and more. The project will roll out in stages after studies and plans are done—local groups and investors are working together—to boost the local economy.  BusinessNorth

  • Alison Wood—a science teacher at Denfeld High School—is one of 14 U.S. educators chosen for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Fellowship; she will spend four months next year in Greece studying how schools use citizen science and outdoor data collection in teaching.  WDIO
