- ➤ YWCA Duluth is hosting dinner events to gather ideas on how to improve programs for women and families through homemade meals—cooked by Strategic Advisor Beth Burt—with events scheduled for October 15th, October 21st, and October 27th from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants will receive a $50 stipend or may arrange a one-on-one meeting if they cannot attend the group dates. - ➤ The Lake Superior Zoo is conducting a study that uses underwater flashlights—placing amphibians in a dark box to capture their unique glow—to help zookeepers identify and care for them. - ➤ Firefighters have contained 25% of the Crosby fire that now covers 160 acres; forecasted shifts in wind may push the blaze toward the Superior Hiking Trail and force its temporary closure at 8 a.m. today between Caribou Falls State Wayside Rest and Lake County Road 7—officials expect figures to adjust as mapping improves. - ➤ Lakes Concrete Plus and Key Lime Air will each pay $45,000 and change policies—settling claims of wrongful sexual stereotyping after a woman was fired from a concrete truck driver job and a qualified man was not hired for a flight attendant role.
