  • Mesabi Metallics welcomed over 30 Leaders Lab alumni at its Nashwauk site — where visitors toured the project and learned about plans for green steel innovation. The company will invest $500 million in the second quarter as part of a $1.9 billion project that will create the first new iron ore mine in 50 years and boost local jobs.  BusinessNorth

  • The News Tribune has released the first episode of its five-part podcast Edmund Fitzgerald: 50 Years Below, where Jay Gabler explains why the famed freighter was a legend before its loss and its role in local shipping+ the series will offer four more episodes on Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10.  Superior Telegram

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters increased the Crosby Fire containment to 70% after overnight rain kept the blaze at 300 acres—a 20% gain from Sunday—while crews work on hotspots and a portion of the Superior Hiking Trail in Crosby Manitou State Park remains closed although the park is open.  KSTP
