National Bank of Commerce received Community Champion recognition from the Minnesota Bankers Association after 240 associates volunteered 1,811 hours on 32 projects during its Fall Week of Caring—efforts that included cleaning a Duluth cemetery and packing food bags.

The bank serves communities in Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin and will continue its tradition of service.

The federal shutdown has delayed Minnesota’s LIHEAP funds—funds that normally help eligible residents pay heating bills before winter—and the Department of Commerce urged vulnerable households to apply now so they are ready when funding resumes.

The Minnesota Department of Health report showed overdose deaths dropped 26% from 2023 and opioid deaths fell 32%—the lowest in years—with over 4,300 overdoses treated last year.

Officials said the numbers reflect progress in crisis response—though they cautioned the figures do not capture the full picture.
