COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Second Harvest Northland runs food shelves in Duluth at 2302 Commonwealth Avenue and in Grand Rapids at 2222 Cromwell Drive to help local families get food and essential items. The Duluth drive‐through site is open once a week on Tuesdays or Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—while the Grand Rapids location has services on three days with different hours. WDIO
- ➤ Chum, Duluth's largest emergency shelter, received a $2.5 million grant from former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund—this is the largest private gift in the nonprofit's history. Executive Director John Cole said the grant will expand the shelter and its support services for families. WDIO
- ➤ Renovations are underway at a former duplex on Oakes Avenue in Superior to expand Harbor House Crisis Shelters, which will have eight rooms (including an ADA accessible ground floor) and serve about 300 women and families a year; the shelter is expected to open early next year with grants + city support. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the DNR turned on its EagleCam for the season so viewers could watch endangered bald eagles care for their nest. The camera was repositioned and fitted with a new antenna for a clearer picture — while a second camera now streams another spot after the original nest fell in 2023. KSTP
- ➤ Bogey, the Great Lakes Aquarium's longtime ambassador bald eagle aged 26, was euthanized last week after his health declined and he struggled to stand and eat. A necropsy is underway to check for other health issues while the aquarium reflects on his service since he arrived in 2001. WDIO

- ➤ Three retiring K-9—Tuuko, Jack, and Donny—were honored at Hermantown City Hall on December 1 while three new K-9—Kylo, Bruno, and Ollie—joined the Hermantown Police Department and St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. The ceremony, supported by the Northland K-9 Foundation, showed the important role these dogs play in keeping officers safe. WDIO
