State Sen. Grant Hauschild said the Senate Tax Omnibus Bill now has new funds for local governments, fire and EMS services, schools, and conservation projects in Northern Minnesota.

He said the moves will help rural areas and he will work to keep these wins in the bill as talks continue — ensuring help reaches the region.

The Senate Committee on Taxes released its omnibus tax bill Tuesday night and proposed a 3.1% cut to Duluth’s local government aid, removing $1.1 million from the city’s general fund.

Mayor Roger J. Reinert — who said the city relies too much on unpredictable state aid — canceled his schedule and is traveling to the State Capitol today to address the cuts.
