COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chum, the largest emergency shelter north of the Twin Cities, announced it received a $2.5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund—its biggest private gift ever. The nonprofit will use the funds over the next five years to expand its Emergency Family Shelter and support services in Duluth to help ensure no child sleeps outdoors.  WDIO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Snowy weather has drawn more customers to Northland shops such as Trailfitters, Northwest Outlet and Duluth Gear Exchange. The stores report that locals and visitors are buying new winter gear—preparing for colder conditions.  WDIO
  • Small Business Saturday provided local shoppers with discounts at over 300 businesses in Superior, and Roni Hinnenkamp reopened her boutique on Belknap street after remodeling (supporting local families). Lizzards Art Gallery hosted a show featuring 70 local artists (a move that boosted the twin ports economy).  WDIO
